Biography
Jim Hawkins is a commercial litigator with significant expertise in contract, secured financing, and consumer law. In addition to his work at Daniels & Tredennick, he is a full professor at the University of Houston Law Center where he has taught contracts, secured financing, bankruptcy, and legal writing seminars.
Jim has published articles on these topics in the UCLA Law Review, the Minnesota Law Review, Indiana Law Journal, the Washington and Lee Law Review, the William and Mary Law Review, and the Harvard Journal on Legislation, among other journals. He has presented his work at conferences across the country, including at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Columbia. Frequently sought as an expert on contract and lending issues by media outlets, Jim has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, among others. He testified before the House Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit regarding a bill on the rent-to-own industry.
Jim earned his J.D. from the University of Texas, where he was the Grand Chancellor and served as the Chief Articles Editor of the Texas Law Review. He clerked for the Honorable Jerry E. Smith of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and worked with the Houston office of Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP.
